Bible Questions
Straight questions, straight answers, from the Bible.
Every article in this section starts with a question somebody actually asks. Not a topic, not a theme. A question, written the way a real person would say it out loud.
Then it answers it. From the text, with the passages laid out so you can check them yourself.
How these work
We give the answer up front. No long windup. You'll know where we land in the first few lines, and then you'll get the reasons.
We deal with the hard verses. If there's a passage that looks like it argues against our answer, you'll find it quoted here and worked through honestly. We're not going to pretend a hard verse is easy, and we're not going to skip it and hope you don't notice.
We tell you when something is disputed. Some questions have a clear answer in Scripture. Some have been argued over by people who take the Bible seriously. When it's the second kind, we say so, we give you the best case on the other side, and then we tell you what we believe and why.
We're not going to make you feel stupid for asking. There's no such thing as a question that's too basic here. Most people were never taught this stuff, and that isn't their fault.
What gets answered here
Salvation and assurance. What do I have to do to be saved? How can I know I really am? What if I mess up? Can I lose it?
Things you've been taught. Do I have to be baptized to be saved? Do I have to turn from my sins first? Do I have to make Jesus Lord of my life? What about tithing? What about speaking in tongues?
Hard passages. The verses that get thrown around, quoted out of context, or used to scare people. Hebrews 6. James 2. Matthew 7:21. The ones nobody wants to preach on.
God and the Bible. Can I trust the Bible? Who decided which books belong in it? Why does God allow suffering? Is Jesus really God?
What's here now
- [Does Baptism Save You? →]
That's it so far. This site is new, and one person writes it in the hours around a job and two young sons.
More is coming. There's an email option at the bottom of any page if you want to know when.
Ask a question
This is the part I actually want you to read.
If you've got a question and nobody around you will answer it plainly, send it to me. Ken@livingswordministries.org
I read everything that comes in. I'm not going to be able to write a full article for every question, but the ones that keep coming up are how I decide what to work on next. Your question might turn into the next thing published here.
And if I don't know the answer, I'll tell you that instead of making something up.
